Illicit Affairs
by Jo Matthews, Bec Rose, and NJ Cole
Illicit Affairs is a bound up of three very good, steamy stories written by three amazing authors. The stories left me wanting more and I truly hope there will be a continuation of them in the near future.
This bound up has three wonderful stories that I'm going to tell you a bit about:
First of the three is Unexpected Journey written by the wonderful Jo Matthews. This novella narrates Sarah's life after she found out something shocking and hurtful about her husband.
Sarah is married to her high school sweetheart, Mitch Chandler, but things changed after only 6 months of marriage. Now, after eight years of being constantly miserable, Sarah and Mitch are attempting to salvage their marriage. But what happens when Mitch has a "very important meeting for work" and sends his friend Aaron with his wife on a vacation in his place?
Will Aaron see the beautiful Sarah that Mitch is too blind to see? Will Sarah open her eyes and see what is in front of her? You shall discover all of that on your own.
Unexpected Journey is beautifully written by Jo Matthews. I truly enjoyed the way this novella was written. I also enjoyed the fact that it had a back story and it wasn't all a smut, though I cannot complain about that, either. I think the author described everything just enough to leave us wondering what will happen next. She also accentuated the characters perfectly, in my opinion. The story was written wonderfully and will definitely leave you panting for more. I, for one, hope that Jo will be honoring us with a continuation of this wonderful novella.
The second novella is called Hot Summer Nights written by Bec Rose and tells us the story of the freshly divorced Annie Murphy and her—as the title already lets us know—very hot summer nights.
Annie discovers that her husband is not on her team anymore and is left alone at the age of forty-five, not knowing what to do with her newly single status.
But everything is about to change when her son, Michael, arranges a friend of his to stay the summer with his mother as a host. Well let me tell you that the guest, as well as the host, will have a very, very hot summer, but how will they manage to cool down?
Hot Summer Nights, the cleverly written novella by Bec Rose, will actually hurt your feelings once you finish it. I honestly want to read more about those two, and I am not entirely happy with how it ended because it left me with too many unanswered questions, so I will be the first in line waiting for the sequel of this novella. I will not give anything else away so that you can have the pleasure of finding out yourselves.
The last novella, but certainly not least, is written by NJ Cole and it is called Second Chances. It narates the story of Calla and the beautiful stranger she met on the side of the road on a stormy night.
Calla is married to the chief of the police, Bill Moretti, but he is not a very truthful man to his wife. Calla catches him several times stepping out on their marriage, but he keeps convincing her to come back to him. They are trying very hard to have kids but they never seem to manage that.
One weekend Calla rushes home to her husband to try again, but on her way she stumbles across a blue eyed beauty on the side of the road. Seeing him soaked from the terrible storm outside, she offers him a ride to the nearest town where he can spend the night. But is this where she will part from her stranger? What will happen with her husband?
Second Chances is beautifully written and left me wishing every single soul would find such a wonderful stranger soaking wet on the side of the road. I cannot blame Calla at all for her illicit affair, besides this story was so amazingly heart wrenching that I do not have anything bad to say about it. This story does not leave the reader wondering what will happen next but it definitely left me wanting to read more about the characters I came to love.
All in all, I truly enjoyed this bind up of three novellas. Even though the genre of this book—erotica—is at times frowned upon and people think they are all about sex, these three authors managed to accentuate and write back stories that fit magnificently with the steamier scenes that they wrote. When I signed up to read this book, I did not expect it to be as good as it was, and I definitely do not regret I did. In fact, I wish I would have started it sooner.
I am being one hundred percent honest when I say that loved these three novellas and I truly hope I see a sequel to them. I give them the highest rating from the bottom of my heart and I recommend it to all steamy romance lovers!
