alacarte SUMMARY
Claire Brighton has just finished college and is abandoning her warm, southern home in favor of gritty New York City. She searches for the perfect roommate and finds Lydia Taylor. Lydia lives a life of privilege in her father's penthouse, but like Claire, she's ready to go out into the world on her own. Claire and Lydia rent a little apartment in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, not far from Lydia's older brother, Jason. Claire is intrigued by Lydia's stories of Jason, who is the black sheep of the family—and a musician. The minute Claire hears him sing, she falls for him. Claire thrives in her new urban surroundings, treasuring her time with Jason and exploring her new found sexuality, but both Claire and Jason carry shadows with them. They're each fighting to move on from wounds of their past, but they learn that they will need each other to do it.
alacarte EXCERPT
Jason takes a sharp breath in, flicks his cigarette away and takes a step toward me. The intensity of his eye contact makes me apprehensive. I never talk about my daddy with anyone. I look down at my feet and Jason gently grabs and holds my wrist. The top of my head only reaches the base of his neck. I stare at his fresh tattoo. It’s black, white, and gray. It’s a Lilly with script around it. I can barely read it in the dim light but looking closer I see it says, ‘Never let go’. “The tattoo. It’s for your mother?” I whisper. Jason nods and leans down toward me. He presses his forehead against mine. The only sound is our breathing. I feel our pain in my chest. My heart is ripping open, and I want to comfort him and hold him and kiss him. I tilt my head back and look into Jason’s eyes. The current running between us is palpable. I part my lips and press them to his. The kiss is shy and tentative. His lips are so soft…they taste like beer and peppermint, and they’re warm and strong against mine. I realize how brazen I’m being and pull away. As I move back, Jason’s grip on me tightens and he places his hand on the small of my back so I can’t step away. I smile and kiss him again. This time he presses my body to his and work his lips over mine, at first gentle and then rough. He lets go of my wrist and I’m free to touch his body. I place one hand over his heart and the other reaches up to touch his hair. He moans, grips my neck, and tilts my chin up with his thumb. The kiss becomes more desperate, more filled with desire—and warmth spreads through my body. He backs up against the wall and begins to kiss my neck. He tangles his hands in my hair. I take this opportunity to breathe, but he kisses me again as he slides his hand down to my ass. I wrap one leg around his, craving more contact, wanting to ease the ache I’m feeling. He gets hard as my body rubs against his. He moans as I grind up against him and kisses me harder. I move my mouth to his shoulder and nibble at his flesh. I’ve never felt more aroused or been this forward. I feel as though I could kiss him every day and never tire of the way our mouths and bodies fit together. His grip tightens, and I know he must be feeling it, too. “You’re so beautiful. You feel so good.” He knots his fingers in my hair and kisses me again. Just then, I hear the worst possible sound. The emergency door opens and Ben is standing there.

Excerpt from Midnight Eternal
“I want you in the waiting position in the playroom. My butterfly may take as long as she likes, but if I’m kept waiting, there will be a consequence. One minute wearing nipple clamps for each minute sounds fair.” She nodded her head and began to move. “Oh, and I’ll be paddling that ass and flogging that pussy while we wait for your timer to count down.”
Her eyes were wide. I held up my phone with the screen facing her as the timer changed from seventeen to eighteen seconds.
“Oh, shit!” she yelped and took off toward the playroom.
“That’s an added minute for language, young lady,” I called after her.
“Fuck,” she whispered under her breath. It was much too low for a human to hear, but I wasn’t human and she knew it.
“Two minutes.”
There was no response that time and I couldn’t help but chuckle. I loved how she was hurrying, but it was no secret that she loved spankings and nipple play, though the ones I had in mind today had a little more bite than the ones I’d used yesterday.
I stepped into the viewing room to undress, and because I was watching through the monitor, I knew the moment she was ready. At Bocaj speed, I entered the playroom to find her kneeling in waiting position. “Little one, you took four minutes. I am quite impressed, although I’ll have to add on the two minutes for your potty mouth.” I walked around her. “Inspection pose.”
I watched as she shifted into position. The scent of her arousal had already filled the air, and when she moved, I was able to see the visible evidence. “So wet for me. You want my cock, don’t you, little one?”
She knew not to answer, although a whimper escaped her lips as I slid my fingers through her wet folds. “On your knees,” I commanded as I walked over to the cabinet and pulled out nipple clamps and a flogger. It wasn’t as soft as the one she loved, but it still had soft fronds so it wouldn’t mark permanently.
Holding the items in my hands, I headed over to the couch and sat on the black leather. “Crawl to me.”
It was completely unnecessary, as I knew she understood her place. I just liked watching her look at me as she moved the short distance across the floor.
She stared into my eyes as I placed first one then the other clamp on her nipples. Holding her breath for a moment, she allowed her body to adjust to the pinching sensation.
“Up on my lap, over my knees.”
The sight before me was spectacular—her milky white ass ready and waiting. I brought my hand down on her smooth cheek, leaving a pink mark in the shape of my hand. “Beautiful.”

A Note From The Author:

The true story of Catherine the Great is one fraught with betrayal, intrigue, and romance. While a good deal of my story is drawn from actual people and events, I have been very liberal in the rearrangement of dates, events, and places. Whenever possible I took my cues from her own words, intermixing my own thoughts and ideas. My thought upon the creation of the book was simple. I looked at the woman she was when she claimed the crown and then wondered, how did an innocent girl from Germany become such a force of nature? Most people aren’t born cold or ambitious, but have circumstances that forge them into those people. And that was the story I wanted to tell in this book. I wanted to see the events in her early life that would have changed her into the person she became, and not knowing the truth of that story, I simply made something up. That is what we, as writers, do best.
QOS_tour_banner_small
If you are curious about the real history behind Catherine, I suggest heading to your local library and doing a bit of research. This is not meant to be a historically accurate representation, but a flight of fancy, one that I hope you, dear reader, will enjoy as much as I have. NEWSLETTERHEADER2

Andrea's Review of Soldier On by Sydney Logan!!

Release Date: June 20
Genres: Romance/Military/New Adult

Synopsis:

Losing her father in Desert Storm has left Stephanie James with a bitter soul when it comes to the military. As a college senior juggling a full course load, Steph's only goal is to graduate with honors at the end of the semester. She’s focused, determined, and a firm believer in all work and no play. Then she meets Brandon Walker at a New Year’s Eve costume party. Despite his disguise, Steph finds herself attracted to the camouflaged soldier who curls her toes with a scorching midnight kiss.

Brandon is an engineering major and ROTC student from the hills of Kentucky. Growing up as the son of a major general has given Brandon firsthand knowledge of the struggles military families sometimes face. Now that his father’s memory is fading, Brandon is even more determined to make his dad proud and graduate as an officer in the United States Army. Then he meets Stephanie, and suddenly, his focus is less on his military service and more on the pretty brunette who has stolen his heart. When he becomes aware of Steph’s resentment toward the military, he worries their relationship is doomed.

When faced with the realization that she's fallen in love with a soldier, can Steph’s wounds from the past be healed with love in her present . . . and in her future?

Andrea’s Review:

Focused. Driven. Determined. Committed. Sad. Heartbroken. Lonely.

These are all words I would use to describe Stephanie James and Brandon Walker. Two individuals that have spent the last 4 years at the same college having never met. Sharing a similar focus on school work and putting everything in life before relationships and love their love story was beautiful. It was more than two people falling in love, it was about two people allowing themselves to be who they wanted to be, allowing happiness into their life and facing the ghosts of their past.

Sydney Logan’s writing made you feel every emotion. The sadness and heartache Steph suffered from a lifetime of living without a father and Brandon’s sadness of having his mother walk out on his family was always in the forefront of who they are. Steph’s refusal to have anything to do with the military and Brandon’s commitment to that same military was an obvious obstacle but the road to their happiness was so much more. For me, underneath it all you see that neither is leading life with their own heart and passion until they meet one another. Through their meeting it is as if they are given permission to live how they want. Through true love it is as though they are each faced with the reality of the choices they have made and those made before them. Steph learns that perhaps her focus has been misguided and Brandon learns that it isn’t about what he thought he needed to do, it was always about who he was meant to be.

The friends and family of Steph and Brandon bring the much needed humor, real-life moments and reality to the story. I cried, laughed, cried and clutched my heart throughout the story. I believed every word and moment these two shared and I could see myself re-reading this story over and over.

Spotlight for Author Keith Rommel. Could he be the next Stephen King?

Could author be the next Stephen King?

mpb.floridaweekly.com

Port St. Lucie writer Keith Rommel’s horror novel is being made into a motion picture!
BY AMY WOODS
Special to Florida Weekly

The next Stephen King could surface in sunny South Florida.

With troubling titles such as “The Lurking Man,” “The Sinful Man” and “The Cursed Man” now in production as a motion-picture thriller author Keith Rommel has taken on the tendencies of horror’s highness.

Wrote a reviewer at United Kingdom based BookLore of “The Cursed Man”: “This is a very well-written book, with a little bit of Stephen Kinglike horror. It will keep the reader interested, and it is a gem of a story.”

“I’m a fan of Stephen King, and to even be compared to somebody like that is very humbling,” Mr. Rommel said. “You’re your own worst critic, so I don’t necessarily agree with it, but I’ll take the compliment.”

While the 43-year-old Port St. Lucie resident has read a lot of King’s bestsellers, other authors have influenced the writing style of the hobbyist-turned hopeful.

ROMMEL “Iris Johansen, she’s a good writer,” Mr. Rommel said. “I really liked ‘The Search.’”

He also admits the “Left Behind” apocalyptic-fiction series has made as much of an impression on him as his collection of comic books.

“I am a comic book nerd nerd, nerd, nerd, through and through,” Mr. Rommel said.

He started buying comic books in elementary school after a teacher told him he had a reading-comprehension problem and prescribed “pictures with words.”

“I couldn’t put the pieces together when you asked me what happened in the story, and my teacher said to start reading books that had pictures in them,” Mr. Rommel said. “And here I am at the age of 43, and I still buy comic books, much to my wife’s dismay.”

By day, the father of two works at Rocky’s Ace Hardware in Tequesta. By night, he pens passages filled with crime, suspense and psychological fiction.

“I grew up working in retail and started to write as a hobby,” Mr. Rommel said. “It has been a fine balance being able to maintain the demands of running a store, raising a family and writing. The majority of my writing is done at night when the house goes quiet.

Q: Can you describe “The Cursed Man”?

A: “The Cursed Man” is based off of a family friend’s young-adult life. His mother is living inside his head, and he’s just trying to escape her. The whole book, you’re trying to figure out whether this guy is nuts or not. It’s about abuse.

Maritza Brikisak plays Death in “The Cursed Man.” COURTESY PHOTOS

Q: How did you land a motion-picture deal?

A: I realized I had no PR, so I looked for reviewers to review the book. I mailed out 15 books and got nine reviews one who compared my writing to Stephen King. Who knew when I licked that stamp and put it on the envelope and sent it to the United Kingdom that this would ever get the attention of a producer?

Q: When is the movie coming out?

A: Production started in February, and it’s supposed to wrap at the end of September. Intergalaxy Entertainment and James Perry are producing the movie in Pasadena, Calif.
Q: You say your movie has something in common with Star Wars. What is it? Jim Tavaré as Terry in
“The Cursed Man.”

A: The moco [motion-control] crane that was used to film the Death Star!

Q: How did your father serve as an inspiration for your work?

A: My father was a big advocate of my writing and often encouraged me to try and get published. When he passed away from cancer, I was compelled to pursue publication and found a home for “The Cursed Man” at Sunbury Press. The first thing you see slapped in your face is my dedication to my father.

Q: Where can readers buy your novels?

A: They can be purchased through any major bookseller, including Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Q: What is your goal as a writer?

A: My ultimate goal is to share my work with people in hopes of removing them out of their everyday stress and immerse them into a world of intrigue. If I was able to do my hobby as a living, I would love to be able to write books full-time.

Q: Are you going to be rich and famous someday?

A: I can tell you right now if “The Cursed Man” is successful, “The Lurking Man” is going to be a movie. They have the book already.
